Lead Designer | Indiana Product Design (Freelance Design)
After years of developing my skills as a designer, I decided to start my own business. My specialty is with mass production product design for plastic, machined, and sheet metal. I also work with industry to develop welded steel structures for manufacturing plants and custom extruded aluminum fixtures.
Project Designer | Envolve Engineering (Consumer Appliances)
Primarily worked on the creation and management of master models and product designs, which included direct involvement with outside clients to develop their unique designs. Created and ensured the accuracy of schematics and production drawings. Communicated with local and international vendors to ensure the production parts and prototypes met quality standards. Performed in depth analysis of the mechanical material properties of different plastics which included analyzing FEA and making design improvements. Performed audits of the assembly at the design and manufacturing level to improve efficiency, and DFM analysis to improve the model accuracy before tooling. I further honed my skills in advanced surface modeling, GD&T, and mechanical product design, as well as in depth study and creation of new PCB designs.
Designer | Panasonic Home Appliances (Vacuum Cleaners)
With regards to new product development, much of the work was similar to Envolve Engineering. Responsibilities at Panasonic included leading a group of designers to develop new vacuum cleaners, as well as assisted on other projects to develop subsystems. Created hand-made accurate prototypes for testing and development. Managed the testing and performed design audits of outsourced projects. Led the development of innovative cost reduction and quality improvements. Set up an assembly line in Mexico for the first run engineering build.
Champion Laboratories Inc. (Oil and Air filters)
Modified and created electrical and pneumatic schematics, bills of materials and plant engineering diagrams for the plant’s engineering and maintenance personnel during a six-month internship. Also reorganized the engineering department’s filing system to ensure proper document control.
